A programme to improve the management of children with cerebral palsy and to monitor their progress was introduced in two southern counties in Sweden in 1994. Since then it has been extended to the whole country, and has been taken up by Norway, Denmark and Iceland, and become well-known globally. Data on survival to late adolescence and on causes of death and associated factors have been reported (Lena Westbom and colleagues.
