They are effective in reducing inflammation of the nasal mucosa and have been demonstrated to have higher efficacy in reducing nasal congestion and rhinorrhea compared with antihistamines and leukotriene receptor antagonists.23 Furthermore, intranasal corticosteroids are effective in reducing ocular symptoms and improving the quality of life of patients with SAR,21,24 especially when administered before exposure to the sensitizing allergens.
