2023, Journal of Neonatal NursingCitation Excerpt :The primary outcome variables were (i) breastfeeding adequacy and behaviour at discharge, as assessed by Infant Breast Feeding Assessment Tool (IBFAT) and Latch audible swallowing type of nipple comfort holding (LATCH) tool scores (ii) exclusivity on breast milk at 6 weeks of life. We assessed the breastfeeding behaviour at discharge with IBFAT (4 items) (Matthews, 1988) to measure the rooting, fixing, and suckling behaviour of the infant during feeding. The first four items of the tool measured the infant's readiness to feed and rooting, fixing, and suckling behaviour, and the last item assessed the satisfaction of the mother with the breastfeeding experience.
