2020, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In PracticeCitation Excerpt :Hegar et al72 prospectively studied infants and showed that in the first 5 months of life, 50% to 72% of infants have episodes of regurgitation at least once per day. CM elimination can improve reflux in a minority of infants, described in as many as 16% to 42% of infants with GER.73-75 One study suggests that infants who have more severe GER are more likely to have attributable CMA,76 though in the study, pH monitoring did not show a significant increase in the reflux index during CM challenge.

2017, Pediatric Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Milk protein sensitivity can be difficult to differentiate from GER symptoms with no diagnostic tools to differentiate between the 2 entities.89 A prospective study found that 85 of 204 patients with documented GER by pH impedance testing had milk protein sensitivity.21 Therefore, infants with recurrent vomiting and persistent symptoms may benefit from a 2- to 4-week trial of an extensively hydrolyzed protein formula.22,90
