Central sleep apnea
2010, Clinics in Chest MedicineCitation Excerpt :There are several therapeutic options for the treatment of CCHS and idiopathic chronic alveolar hypoventilation syndrome. These include nocturnal oxygen therapy, diaphragmatic pacing and mechanical ventilation by mask, via tracheotomy, or by negative pressure ventilation.86,95–106 Respiratory stimulants are generally ineffective.107
Diaphragmatic pacing for the treatment of congenital central alveolar hypoventilation syndrome
2008, Journal of Pediatric SurgeryCitation Excerpt :To assess phrenic nerve integrity, we stimulated it transcutaneously in the neck, and the response of the diaphragm was monitored by fluoroscopy. There are 4 major components to a diaphragmatic pacing system (Fig. 1) [11]. They include (a) the nerve electrode, which is implanted around the phrenic nerve; (b) a subcutaneously implanted receiver; (c) energy transfer coil, which is placed on the skin over the receiver, and (d) an external pulse generator.
