2020, Emery and Rimoin’s Principles and Practice of Medical Genetics and Genomics: Metabolic DisordersAdiposity and Cardiovascular Risk Factor Variables in Childhood Are Associated With Premature Death From Coronary Heart Disease in Adults: The Bogalusa Heart Study
2016, American Journal of the Medical SciencesCitation Excerpt :As noted earlier, we have found that obesity relates to adverse changes of risk factors in childhood and tracked as a predictor of future adult levels. We have found that obesity in childhood also precedes elevated insulin levels25 before the onset of the metabolic syndrome in adults. Obesity in childhood relates to higher insulin levels in adulthood, but, adjusting for obesity in childhood, the insulin levels are not predictive of higher adult insulin levels.
The one year exercise and lifestyle intervention program KLAKS: Effects on anthropometric parameters, cardiometabolic risk factors and glycemic control in childhood obesity
2014, Metabolism: Clinical and ExperimentalCitation Excerpt :Prevalence rates have reached very high levels during the past decades [2], although there seems to be a trend towards stabilization at a still alarmingly high level [3,4]. Many obese children and adolescents already present with features of the metabolic syndrome, including disturbed glucose metabolism, dyslipidaemia, elevated transaminases, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and others [5–10]. Especially abdominal obesity, defined as increased waist circumference, is associated with increased risk for cardiometabolic comorbidities and the metabolic syndrome already in childhood [11,12].
