2023, Autoimmunity ReviewsCitation Excerpt :Based on this we proffer a model for disparate aetiological triggered interstitial tissue inflammation with convergence on the epicardium with the CAA phenotype that predominantly afflicts younger children (Fig. 1). Although KD is pathognomically associated with CAA, the most striking feature of the disease is “myocarditis” [26–29]. Echocardiography has consistently shown evidence of ventricular wall dysfunction in KD, and this may be associated with coronary artery dilatation [30–32].
