Diagnosis criteria of CS

Confirmed CSCS was diagnosed in infants who met any one of the following criteria:25 41
  1. Neonatal non-treponemal serological titre fourfold higher than maternal titre at delivery.

  2. Reactive treponemal IgM.

  3. Increasing non-treponemal serological titre and positive treponemal-specific antibody test.

  4. Positive treponemal-specific antibody test after 18 months of age.

Excluded CSAny infants who had a normal physical examination, and one of the following:25
  1. Non-treponemal serological titres were negative at birth, 3 months and 6 months of age.

  2. Both the non-treponemal serological titre and treponemal-specific antibody tests were negative at two check-ups performed every 3 months from the age of 6 months.

  • CS, congenital syphilis.
