TY - JOUR T1 - Early and late cranial ultrasonographic appearances and outcome in very low birthweight infants. JF - Archives of Disease in Childhood JO - Arch Dis Child SP - 931 LP - 937 DO - 10.1136/adc.62.9.931 VL - 62 IS - 9 AU - R W Cooke Y1 - 1987/09/01 UR - http://adc.bmj.com/content/62/9/931.abstract N2 - Of 798 very low birthweight infants admitted to a regional neonatal intensive care unit over a five year period, 547 were discharged home and 524 available for follow up at two to five years later. Eighty-seven infants had a major impairment. Both early and late cerebral ultrasonographic appearances gave useful prognostic information, but the presence of cystic lesions, particularly if bilateral, was highly significant. There was a close correlation between late parenchymal lesions and previous ipsilateral intraventricular haemorrhage, suggesting a causal relation. ER -
