Fetal alcohol syndrome, now termed fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), may be the greatest preventable cause of long-term psychological and behavioural problems in childhood, and beyond. Co-incidentally, two systematic reviews on this topic have appeared: both suggest that it is an even bigger problem than we thought.

The first looked specifically at behavioural outcomes, choosing only studies which had used the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessments (ASEBA) in school-age children (Tsang T et al.
