I have read with great interest the article of Giugliani et al1 on the impact of a short-term intervention using the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the management of severe malnutrition in Angola. The authors attributed a 44% decrease in fatalities to their short-term intervention without providing information about the number of patients with coexisting infections and how they were managed.
