Much has changed in both attitude and practice in the 10 years since the previous edition of this useful book. This is reflected not only in the change of title from “Abuse” to “Protection” and the removal of the explicit clinical pictures from the outside back cover but also in the extensive revision of all sections of the book. An emphasis on holistic “assessment” rather than “examination”, the role of the doctor in the multi-agency team and the advice to seek specific consent for ano-genital examination all help to bring the book …
