    Predictive value of cough swabs is dependent on age

    Dear Editor,

    In their study of 30 adults with CF, Equi and colleagues [1] found that a cough swab culture was highly predictive of a positive sputum culture (positive predictive value 100%). They conclude that a positive cough swab culture is highly predictive of lower airways infection.
