Position paper on the use of botulinum toxin in cerebral palsy

Editor,—Contrary to the statement by Carret al that botulinum toxin is currently unlicensed for use in the treatment of patients with cerebral palsy,1 we would like to inform your readers that the Botox brand of botulinum toxin (Allergan, High Wycombe, Bucks, UK) is currently licensed for the treatment of cerebral palsy as follows: In hospital specialist centres with appropriately trained personnel, of dynamic equinus foot deformity due to spasticity in ambulant paediatric cerebral palsy patients, two years of age or older.
Botox is currently the only brand licensed for this indication.
