    A hookah-smoking Caterpillar

    Hookahs were a favourite of Victorian gentlemen, and would have been familiar to Alice. It might be surprising to learn that they are increasingly popular with American adolescents. In a longitudinal cohort survey from Los Angeles, young people aged 14 to 16 were asked about their smoking habits, and up to 11% claimed to have used hookahs (doi. org/10.1542/peds0.2017–3616).
