Screening for autism

Can we really screen whole populations of young children for autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and if so, should we? According to a paper from the US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF), the answer to the first question is ‘yes’, and to the second, ‘not yet’. They examined all the evidence around this subject and came up with some recommendations (Siu A, et al. JAMA 2016. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.0018).
