    We are not aware of any comparable research on the T lineage. An impact of early vitamin A deficiency on lymphopoiesis may have relevance for the current debate regarding mechanisms of action for neonatal vitamin A supplementation [28–30].     However, it would seem important to conduct trials with longer follow-up than 6 months to make sure that the effect does not cease to be beneficial and/or becomes negative. Under all circumstances there is an urgent need for further investigations of the differential effects of VAS administered at birth before we move to implementing new recommendations [34,35]. In conclusion, the effect on mortality of 50,000 IU vitamin A given with BCG vaccine at birth seemed to depend on other vaccines.
