    Citation Excerpt :

Gene therapy incorporating the infusion of autologous hematopoietic stem cells transduced in vitro with the γc gene has been shown to restore the immune system in most of patients with SCID.23 However, two of the 11 patients treated by the French group24 had a leukemia-like illness.25 This event was a consequence of insertional mutagenesis in which γc gene was inserted in or near an oncogene.26
