Effect of Weight Loss on Puberty Onset in Overweight Children
2017, Journal of PediatricsCitation Excerpt :In addition, injection of IGF-1 in animal models has been reported to start puberty23,24; however, baseline IGF-1 or IGF-1/IGFBP-3 ratio as marker for free IGF-1 was not predictive for earlier onset of puberty. The increase of IGF-1 during puberty has been reported previously and has been suggested to be a consequence of increased growth hormone in puberty.53,54 Several more recent studies have suggested that the earlier onset of breast development may occur independently of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activation, perhaps through EDCs acting on adipocytes or on other hormonally responsive tissues1,26,27; however, our data do not support the impact of EDCs on the onset of puberty in the context of obesity because we found hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activation at puberty onset.
Metabolic alterations in paediatric GH deficiency
2016, Best Practice and Research: Clinical Endocrinology and MetabolismCitation Excerpt :Some studies also demonstrate a reduction in truncal fat with GH administration in obese adults without GHD [45,47]. This is why administration of GH is suggested not only to treat short stature but also to improve body composition in GHD children [42]. Based on the KIGS database, we have reported (n = 2643 children with GHD) that overweight and obese children with GHD reduced their degree of overweight after initiating GH replacement treatment [54].
