Day 1 is the first day of admission to hospital (47 days of age); ammonia in μmol/l in serum (normal 9–33); tCO2 in mmol/l in serum; HCO3/day is daily supplement of bicarbonate plus acetate plus citrate in mmol; arterial pH/pCO2 (kPa)/pO2 (kPa)/BE, arterial values obtained from a radial artery catheter; and BE, base excess.
