Medical conditions thought to be treatable on the day assessment unit

• Mild asthma
• Gastroenteritis treated with oral rehydration therapy
• Minor head injuries with no neurological signs
• Simple febrile convulsions in infants over 1 year in whom there was an obvious focus of infection
• Known children with epilepsy who were ‘postictal’
• Non-specific abdominal pain
• Upper respiratory tract infections
• Accidental poisoning requiring a period of observation, for example paracetamol
• Children known to the department with mild diabetic ketoacidosis or hypoglycaemia
• Cystic fibrosis patients for initiation of home intravenous treatment
• Haemophilia
