Medical conditions thought to be treatable on the day assessment unit
| • Mild asthma |

| • Gastroenteritis treated with oral rehydration therapy |
| • Minor head injuries with no neurological signs |
| • Simple febrile convulsions in infants over 1 year in whom there was an obvious focus of infection |
| • Known children with epilepsy who were ‘postictal’ |
| • Non-specific abdominal pain |
| • Upper respiratory tract infections |
| • Accidental poisoning requiring a period of observation, for example paracetamol |
| • Children known to the department with mild diabetic ketoacidosis or hypoglycaemia |
| • Cystic fibrosis patients for initiation of home intravenous treatment |
| • Haemophilia |
