Children born to HIV-positive mothers have a 15–35% risk of being infected with HIV. A recent conference entitled “Don't Forget the Children” resulted in the publication of guidelines which encouraged HIV testing of all children born to HIV-infected adults.1 These recommendations followed the preventable death of a child who had a delayed diagnosis of HIV.
