Survival after severe burns

The management of patients with burns continues to improve. Up-to-date assessments of prognosis at presentation with burns are necessary to plan optimal management. A study from a single children's centre in Texas, USA (Robert Kraft and colleagues. Lancet 2012;379:1013–21; see also Comment, ibid: 983–4) has provided data correlating burn area with prognosis in a modern burns unit.
