Prehospital treatment for status epilepticus

In a trial reported in 2001 intravenous lorazepam was better than intravenous diazepam or placebo when given by paramedics to treat status epilepticus. Intravenous administration may be difficult in this situation, however, and intramuscular midazolam has become popular, although data to support this treatment are sparse.
