Abstract

Objectives To demonstrate radiological manifestations of various abdominal emergencies including trauma in paediatric patients.

Methods Ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance manifestations of various intraabdominal emergencies including trauma were displayed to find and evaluate abdominal pathological lesions under emergency conditions.

Results Radiological demonstrations with brief reviews were performed in various intraabdominal emergencies in paediatric patients. They were common and uncommon gastrointestinal and genitourinary emergencies, such as incarcerated intussusception, usual and unusual inguinal hernia including incarcerated hernia and inguinal hernia of the ovary, usual and unusual appearance of acute appendicitis including variable location of appendicitis and a rare case of acute appendicitis in a patient with colonic non-rotation, perforated gastroduodenal ulcer disese, ruptured ovarian cyst, torsion of ovary or testis, torsion of ovarian teratoma and others. Also, a schematic demonstration of intraabdominal trauma with a short explanation was displayed.

Conclusions Radiological evaluation for paediatric abdominal emergencies is very useful for proper diagnosis and management.
