All of us working in paediatrics will face the death of a child in our care at some time. When the death is unexpected, we must be clear-headed and professional, both to help the family through their terrible grief and to ensure that the death is properly investigated. As the two Peter’s, Sidebotham and Flemming, point out in their preface, this is an area where professionals often feel ill-equipped and unprepared, which gave them the inspiration for this excellent book.
