Head injury is one of the the most common reasons for children to attend accident and emergency departments. Perhaps more than any other area of acute paediatrics, head injury presents the greatest challenge in picking out the tiny proportion that might require intensive care and neurosurgical intervention from the vast majority that will come to no harm.
