Re: CHILD2015: the information and learning needs of child healthcare providers in developing countries

Dear Editor,

As detailed in the leading article in the September issue of this journal, CHILD2015 was launched on July 10th 2006. CHILD2015 is a global email discussion group managed and moderated by Global Healthcare Information Network (www.ghi-net.org) and the International Child Health Group (www.ichg.org.uk), UK.

The aim of the discussion group is that, by 2015, every child worldwide will have access to an informed healthcare provider. Even in this "information age", lack of access to relevant, reliable information and learning and training opportunities is consistently identified as a major cause of poor quality health care in developing countries. The main focus of the group is at the local level: households and communities, primary health workers, and health professionals working in district hospital facilities.

CHILD2015 is open to anyone with an interest in improving child healthcare in developing countries and membership is free. The membership has grown rapidly such that there are already more than 150 members. Furthermore, developing countries are well represented, with over a third of the members based in Africa. Many of the members are health workers actively involved in delivery hands-on care to children.

To date, the communications have been lively and important and practical questions have been discussed, including the training of traditional birth attendants and the effectiveness of workshops. All messages to the forum can be accessed and members contributions based on their experience are summarised.

For further details, please see www.dgroups.org/groups/CHILD2015/ or contact the moderator: CHILD2015-admin@dgroups.org.
