Re: Size Correction of Data in Growth Retarded Children

gcl544{at}clinmed.gla.ac.uk Rajeeb Rashid, et al.

Dear Editor,

We would like to congratulate the authors on their report of a group of children with growth retardation secondary to rheumatic disease who were treated with growth hormone (GH) as part of a controlled trial. The authors show that despite a benefit in height, lumbar spine bone mineral content when corrected for size, i.e. BMAD, did not increase significantly. The authors also show that lean body mass SDS was greater in the GH treated group. However, they do not state whether their data were corrected for size or for height age. This needs to be pointed out clearly and we would be grateful if their data can be shown, given that the increase in lean body mass has been highlighted as a novel finding of the study.
