Auditing bone densitometry and fractures in chronic disease

Abstract
In a retrospective analysis of DXA scans performed in an audit of 576 children with chronic disease, bone mineral content (lean mass adjusted) measured at total body and lumbar spine was marginally lower in children with fractures.
However, the predictive ability of different BMD and BMC cut-offs to identify fracture risk in children with chronic disease needs to be tested for specific disease conditions in larger prospective studies.
