    Asthma affects 1 in 11 children or approximately 3 children in every classroom. It is a common cause of school absenteeism, impacting on both the child’s education and their parents’ work.1 Asthma attacks may happen during the school day with potential triggers including exercise, stress, infection and the environment.2

    Schools should be informed that a child has asthma and hold this information in a register. They should be given a personalised asthma action plan (PAAP) and a rescue short-acting beta agonist (SABA) inhaler (and spacer) for each child.
