G102 A 7 YEAR REVIEW OF FETAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY IN HIGH RISK MOTHERS

Aim: To evaluate the fetal echocardiography findings in high risk mothers referred to Birmingham Womens Hospital.
Method: A retrospective review of all fetal echocardiography performed over a 7 year period (01/01/1997 to 31/12/2003) were carried out.
Results: 3428 mothers were referred for fetal echocardiography and a total of 4816 echocardiograms were carried out during this period. The main reason for referrals were: a) previously affected child27%; b) abnormal initial screening scan20.6%; c) maternal cardiac condition9.5%; and d) infant of diabetic mothers8%. There were 606 reported abnormal echocardiograms (17.7%). The majority of the abnormalities were identified in mothers who had abnormal initial screening scan (61%). In addition, the fetal echocardiogram was also abnormal in 8.8% of cases with increased nuchal translucency . . . [Full text of this article]
