This article provides an overview of different types of rights to aid consideration of, and debate about, children and young peoples rights in the context of paediatrics and child health. It demonstrates how childrens rights may or may not differ from adult rights and the implications for practice. It shows that applying a childrens rights framework can be more helpful in pursuing a public child health agenda than in reducing ethical or legal conflicts when interacting with child patients and their families.
